چکیده

An increasing number of recent reports confirm the potential of MC sensors for environmental and biomedical applications, and the multifaceted functionality of MCs indicates their uniqueness as compared with more traditional sensor designs. Unlike many other types of transducers for chemical sensors, MCs are simple mechanical devices. They are tiny plates or leaf springs, typically 0.2-1 ìm thick, 20-100 ìm wide, and 100-500 ìm long, which are connected on one end to an appropriate support for convenient handling. This article only seeks to make a specialized comment on the latest applications of cantilever biosensors in the field of Biological, Physical and Chemical Sciences. Likewise, the reader is also provided with some of the potentials of these biosensors which offer detailed information on the specific molecular interactions. In addition, reference is made to the principle of functioning, achievements and tendencies of this efficient tool.

Deflection, Frequency, and Stress Characteristics of Rectangular, Triangular, and Step Profile Microcantilevers for Biosensors

This study presents the deflection, resonant frequency and stress results of rectangular, triangular, and step profile microcantilevers subject to surface stress. These cantilevers can be used as the sensing element in microcantilever biosensors. To increase the overall sensitivity of microcantilever biosensors, both the deflection and the resonant frequency of the cantilever should be increase...

Self-actuating biosensor using a piezoelectric cantilever and its optimization

This paper presents a self-actuating biosensor based on the piezoelectric cantilever optimized by Taguchi method for the label-free detection of specific biomoleculars. Until now, even though the optimisation of the cantilever-based biosensors have been performed by changing dimensions one by one, few researches have performed the geometric optimisation considering the overall configuration of ...

A Study on Increasing Sensitivity of Rectangular Microcantilevers Used in Biosensors

This study proposes a new microcantilever design with a rectangular hole at the fixed end of the cantilever that is more sensitive than conventional ones. A commercial finite element analysis software ANSYS is used to analyze it. The Stoney equation is first used to calculate the surface stress induced moment, and then applied to the microcantilever free end to produce deflection. The stress an...

Biosensing using dynamic-mode cantilever sensors: a review.

Current progress on the use of dynamic-mode cantilever sensors for biosensing applications is critically reviewed. We summarize their use in biosensing applications to date with focus given to: cantilever size (milli-, micro-, and nano-cantilevers), their geometry, and material used in fabrication. The review also addresses techniques investigated for both exciting and measuring cantilever reso...

Micromechanical cantilever array sensors for selective fungal immobilization and fast growth detection.

We demonstrate the use of micromechanical cantilever arrays for selective immobilization and fast quantitative detection of vital fungal spores. Micro-fabricated uncoated as well as gold-coated silicon cantilevers were functionalized with concanavalin A, fibronectin or immunoglobulin G. In our experiments two major morphological fungal forms were used--the mycelial form Aspergillus niger and th...
